Tyler and I had been prepping for our trip for awhile!
We made it to 20 and we wanted to celebrate! :)
We had the best trip!
We literally unplugged and just relaxed! Our resort was nothing but quaint and quiet, low-key, not overwhelmingly crowded (their peek season is Sept to March) so it was perfection!
We were there the perfect amount of time/days. It was just what we needed!
The first day/afternoon was spent getting there and exploring. We were there early afternoon so we were able to relax and check out the room before exploring the grounds and finding dinner. We spent the rest of the night listening to the Jazz instrumentalist that was amazing at playing!
There are no words for our shuttle ride from the airport to The Halycon. St. Lucia is beautiful. No denying that. But, also, very, very poor. It was heartbreaking, to me, to see how they lived. Everything looked abandoned, boarded up, no electricity, just sad. And when I say, we went all over the island and it was all the same. Even in the 'nicest' part, still was not nice by any means. There was only one main road on the island. They also drive European style, which means on the 'wrong side' of the road than we do. And the speed limit said 40 miles an hour...................
but....
nope, every time we were in the shuttle, with several different drivers, they did not go 40. In fact, it felt more like 70 and there was NO mercy when it came to passing cars, etc. It was mostly a 2 lane, with no lines distinguishing the lanes. So, needless to say, it was a free for all. Someone would pass...............going up a huge mountain......while other cars were flying down on the other side. They all used their horns ALOT. It was crazy! There were no redlights.....only 'give aways' (what we call roundabouts) And, OH MY at going around and through those.
My butt puckered A LOT on our shuttles! ha! It was a BIG experience!
Also, FUN fact! There is ONLY one fast food restaurant on the whole island. With only TWO locations (one at each end of the island). It was crazy to see and the fact that we saw both locations and how PACKED they were! So, have you guessed what chain??
KFC!
Yep, they get their fried chicken on the island!
There were some really incredible views along our trips but mostly flat and then the little cities/towns that were just really sad (to see)
This was their 'downtown' area. We were flying through so fast, I wasnt able to get a lot of pictures but this was the gist of what we saw on our rides...
After an hour and half shuttle to The Halycon, we made it to this! SO peaceful and relaxing!
This was our beautiful view from our balcony!
On our way to checking out all the things...............we got to see some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen!
And, we hit the pool, had dinner and then on our way around, we hit a rain storm that came out of nowhere and we didnt have anywhere to hide! ha! So, we got wet!
After listening to the Jazz player, we crashed!
The next morning, we headed to breakfast! This area went straight out to the ocean, beach and the main area with the biggest pool.
We enjoyed this the rest of the day! More to come of our Rats Island adventure! Stay tuned! :)
